Emerson Coop er Bergren Wedding at Methodist Church

Madeline Cooper daughter of Ward and Mae Cooper wed Duane Vergren son of Arthur and Vilien Vergren in a single ring ceremony at Emerson Methodist Church. Rev Lyman Smith officiated with organist Merrill Warren and singer Anna Bell Clarke. Guests included maid of honor Mrs Fred Bryson and host man Fred Pryson. Reception followed for 120 guests with blue trimmed cake and pink roses. Both families noted as locals with visitors from Rochester and nearby towns.

OES Entertains Masons and Wives

Emerson Chapter OFS hosted Masons of Humanity Lodge and their wives for a pot luck dinner on Saturday November 10. A program featured musical numbers and a comic initiation skit The Order of the Wet Blanket written by Worthy Matron Lorraine Williams. The event drew many members and friends with officers in old fashioned costumes and dancers in sailor outfits. Chet Yeager and Harold Sowers joined as candidates for the skit. At the CBS meeting Monday a Memorial Service honored Helen Hascall. The Worthy Matron reported on her recent attendance at Grand Chapter in Des Moines. A December meeting will include a Christmas tree and gift exchange.

Rev Stevenson Resigns Champion Hill Charge Pastor Leaves Post

Reverend Stevenson, pastor of Champion Hill Presbyterian Church, announced his resignation effective at year’s start. He plans retirement with no definite new home yet. Local community notes include a Monday evening gathering for football squads at the Cole home, with ham dinner and a film. Others visited Maryville and Red Oak relatives, while church groups met for activities and training at a hospital in Omaha.

Armistice Supper At Emerson Ends With Gifts And Plans

About 50 attended the Armistice supper at the Emerson Legion hall Friday night. Rev J J Stevenson and Mrs Stevenson were present. Mrs Farris Waterworth made the cake served by President Mrs Elwin Dethl. The Parker and Diehl families moving to Colorado received Legion Auxiliary gifts. Auxiliary votes included $5 for Halloween party, $10 for sponsored children at Christmas, and sending a girl to Girls State while a new Auxiliary president is sought.

Emerson Women’s Club Focuses Book Month and Fund

Emerson Women’s Club met at the Baptist church for its regular session. Reports came from the Ground Observer Corps and Library Planning committees. Mrs Harold Cheney urged participation in Book Month. McKee reported on School Reorganization. The budget was presented and approved. A Penny Art Play illustrated the Penny Art Fund history and the fund was collected. Refreshments followed.

PTA Prize Awarded to Emerson First Grade

The PTA met at the school for slides and a talk by Miss Winifred Streitenberger about her trip abroad. Emerson first grade won the $3 prize for the most parents present, with meetings moving to 4 p.m. and no December gathering. Mrs. Lewis Clarke will chair the next session on the second Thursday in January at 4 p.m.

Emerson Pupils Take Brief Train Trip to Malvern

First grade pupils and their teacher Miss Darlene Graham enjoyed a short train trip to Malvern on Wednesday. Four cars met the youngsters there and returned them to the streetcar in use.

Pink and blue shower honors Merc Verlin Muaybarry

In Council Bluffs on Friday evening a pink and blue shower celebrated Merc Verlin Muaybarry, formerly Janice Waterworth. Attendees included Mr. Thomas Haslee of Strahan and Mrs. Farris Waterworth, with relatives from Revngton, Nebr, Homer Lack, Arthur Ellis, and Hicherd Karas of Keeniand. Sgt Karan is on a 30 day furlough en route to Oklahoma City. Mr and Mrs L S Mealey of Laturpe spent the weekend with daughter Mrs Hobert Winders and family.
