Hastings School Musicians Broadcast Planned Turned Aside

Hastings public program on KEENE schedule for Nov TS was postponed by the Hastings High School music department under Mrs Thorsen. A 30 minute broadcast planned with student radio basics and dress rehearsal followed by in class transcription. Also notes social and church events with local visits and gatherings across Hastings and nearby towns.

High School Boys Open Season With 26 to 18 Win

The high school boys opened with a Friday night win over Strahan, 26 to 18. The crowd hopes for more victories. Band mothers host a bingo benefit at the Community building on Nov 26 to aid the band. Girls basketball broadcast planned for KFPNF at 7 p.m. Nov 26. Junior high starts the program, with girls basketball practice and a rules clinic at Oakland on Nov 23.

Local Social Notes Highlight Weekend Visits and Family Gatherings

Mr and Mrs Forrest Bloomer hosted a dinner with Cliff Kelly Ruth Eneene and Ernest White and Merrill Thompson visiting from Manhattan Kansas over the weekend. Jeanne Sterer cadet nurse from Des Moines spent the weekend with Leonard and Mrs Seeger. Several Omaha visitors including Mrs Sawyers Howard Noah Culver and Maude Rist were in town Friday. Buffingtons Workman and related families hosted dinners and weekend guests Jack Buffington and Richard Skyles visited from Janesville Wisconsin. Linden Hough from Missouri Valley stayed with grandparents Jim Van Reanan. Tom White’s friends note improving health. Orville Harriman Naval Hospital Bremerton is reported improving. Louie Wesson and son Kenneth of Omaha visited Gradle. Hillyer and son Floyd from Ymogene visited Bryant home. later stops included Wishop Phelps Hathaway and Judy Goy.

Mt Vernon Social Roundup Honors Visitors from Eugene Ore

Mr and Mrs David Angus of Strahan and Mr and Mrs Galen Boles from Eugene Ore visited Mt Vernon guests at various gatherings. The Boles plan to return to Malvern later in the week while Ralph Wederquist visited family before leaving Monday for Ottumwa after a school holiday. Lewis Jensen of Minden stopped by with Mr and Mrs Maurice Alberts on Tuesday.

Parker to report to camp near San Francisco for overseas assignment

Pvt. Donald Parker returned home from North Carolina after six weeks of training. He will have seven days leave then report to a camp near San Francisco on November 22 for overseas duty. Mr. and Mrs. Elsworth Smith and Roger visited family in Alden, Minnesota. Arthur Luther came from Estherville for a weekend visit. No church services were held Sunday due to muddy roads.

Mr and Mrs Roy Erickson and Patsy joined Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Elbert Winchester. Guests included Mr and Mrs Louie Brammeler and Twila with Myra and Mrs J W Castor. Castor ill recently. A young married group held a party Tuesday night with 13 attendees. Lester Maraden and Robert Hicks hosted. Hicks and George Jones entertained. Hicks hosted Friday supper with awarding Thomas coming to Pacific Junction Friday to play on the home floor. Seventh and eighth graders faced a Hogl ih test today. James Weak, an eighth grader, left for Wapello.

Family Dinner Honors Keith McClure At Home

The Rews hosted a Sunday family dinner honoring Keith McClure who recently returned from overseas. Attendees included the Wise, Hurst, Alexander, and Rew families among others, with guests traveling from Malvern Shenandoah and Kathleen. The gathering followed other community events such as I O O F and Rebekah convention attendance and local church activities.

Weekend Guests Visit Fort Madison Teachers Attend Red Oak Game

Miss Phyllia Danielson of Essex visited from Wednesday until Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cooper and family. Edna Griffin and Ruth Bauman teachers at Ft. Madison spent the weekend with the Griffins. The trio attended a football game in Red Oak Monday with Lois Anderson of Stanton joining for supper before returning to their duties that night.
