Game Population Measurement Needed to Plan Conservation
Wildlife biologist Robert Moore of the Iowa Conservation Commission explains that game surveys estimate populations rather than complete censuses. The spring crowing and roadside pheasant count, with ten routes, measures breeding status, while an August count gauges production. The method relies on sampling to provide an index, guiding management and informing sportsmen about game conditions.
