201 Farmers Join Wheat Cut Program
About 92 percent of Mills county farmers joined the USDA feed grain program this year but only 201 signed for the wheat program. The ASCS office said the 201 signers come from a pool of 498 potential wheat growers. Some signers don’t grow wheat this year, which would raise the percentage. Participants receive 7.87 dollars per acre for diverting about 10 percent of their wheat acreage, plus price supports based on normal yields and a post-harvest sealing option at 1.85 dollars per bushel.
