A flood of Malvern social notes lists visits from Detroit to Denison and Council Bluffs to Nebraska towns. Residents traveled to attend funerals, concerts, and family gatherings, with guests from Hastings, Olympia, Burlington and beyond joining host households for weekends and holiday memories.
Blanche Winters attended nephew Dick Pender's funeral in Council Bluffs. Grace Bingham and family returned from Wichita to visit Cola and the Dean Bingham home, then toured the Black Hills. Many relatives from Dryden to Randolph, Council Bluffs, and Tabor called or visited. A. Hadfield recovered from a lawn mower accident May 24.
Connie Lees daughter of Mr and Mrs Gordon Lees of rural Hastings will receive the Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Home Economics education at Northwest Missouri State College on Friday May 26. She plans to seek employment in the business field.
Local church notices list schedules for First Baptist First Presbyterian St Johns Holy Rosary and First Presbyterian including services Sunday school worship baptism installation Bible study choir practice mass times and weekday sessions with pastors and leaders noted for Emerson Glenwood and surrounding area.
Graduation at the Community building with Dr. David A. Redding delivering the address. May 29 to June 9 features Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. No classes on Memorial Day. FIRST METHODIST CHURCH lists John A. Lippincott as Pastor and parish events. Many local families are noted visiting relatives and attending graduations and hospital stays.
The Wilfred Kyle family welcomed a new granddaughter named Christing Jean born in May. Mrs Norman Kyle in Omaha hosted the family. a brother joins the home as well. Guests travel from Middle River Minnesota and Lansing Michigan, with Mr and Mrs Ro Alexander, Mr and Mrs Fred Colwell, Robert and Mary Jane.
Malvern area parents and pupils are reminded that the Community Daily Vacation Bible School starts next Monday May 2. It is a project of the Baptist Methodist and Presbyterian churches with daily sessions from 8 to 1:30 am through May 9 excluding Monday and Saturdays and Sundays. Mrs Edward Mulholland is general superintendent with department heads guiding kindergarten through grade levels at respective churches. Theme The Bible in the Midst of Life. Collected offerings go to the American Bible Society.
Malvern Bremen firemen responded to three grass and trash fire calls in a week. At James Beste farm 30 acres of red clover burned. Basil Chay farm grass fire was quenched Friday. Monday a trash fire at Fumes Summers residence was kept from spreading.
Thirteen additional persons paid fines in Justice Ernest Tinymer mane's court last week for speeding. The charges stemmed from a highway patrol visit two weeks prior. Fines ranged from 12 to 14 dollars with costs. multiple defendants included residents of Glenwood Omaha Creston Malvern and others.
Ste Morrison of Glenwood Linda Kay of Maracal Tabor Arta Hotter of Elgin Neb and Richard D Knott of Pella faced fines of 10 dollars and costs. Donald Lo Whison of Glenwood pleaded for expired license with 5 dollars and costs. Larry Butcher of Avoca cited for failure to have cut under control with 200 dollars in gusts.
Malvern Methodists plan a farewell for Rev. John Lippincott and family this Sunday May 28 with a potluck dinner after worship at the church. After six years serving Malvern and Steahing churches, he heads to a new charge at the South Iowa conference meeting by June.
A Sunday open house honors Nishna Valley Administrators Lewis Doubleday Glen Adkins and Keith Hart, with others invited. It will be held May 2 from 2 30 to 3 00 pm at the Durbin residence southwest of Emerson to recognize their work for the district and mark the end of the current school year. Durbin has served as president of the Nishna Valley board of directors since 1960, until his resignation in January.
