In postwar reflection the author thanks the OPA for keeping prices down and rationing in place, praising its role despite flaws. He commends local and national ration boards for their service and fairness in distributing scarce goods, while acknowledging inflation and shortages altered wartime experiences.
Malvern reports Corporal Heezalyre that the town's gardeners will be well fed this summer and next year. Mrs J F Wearin plans to challenge Fred Borene for early vegetable yields. Dr J O Laird aims for fresh corn from July 1 to frost while J R Hall races him to start. Red Cross field director Ward Slothower helped evacuate 82 people after a deadly tornado near Muskogee.
A 7 30 dinner was held May 15 at the Amick home honoring Henderson high school juniors and seniors. Mrs Amick and two mothers prepared a meal including grape fruit julea smothered steak mashed potatoes green beans spring salad hot rolls vanilla ice cream with strawberriea and angel food cake. The evening featured social gathering and gift to the Juniors. Seniors presented Mrs Amick a vase in appreciation of her work.
The Wesley Chapel community reports a May 14 meeting at Mrs. Ray Plumb’s home focusing on Christian Home influence. Plans include a May-June fund drive and a June 6 mother and daughter tea at the church. Memorial and graduation events feature Wesley Chapel seniors from Henderson and note visits from Ava Feeley and local families. Church services are scheduled for Memorial Day and the conference year ends June 8 at Des Moines First Church.
Lt Edwin McGrew returns from furlough while Lt W E McGrew and Lt Morris Simmons visit Edmondson home. Elizabeth Wilson, Joyce Anderson, and friends attend alumni banquet in Henderson. The telephone company updates service. Mrs Clifford Allely returns from Edmundson hospital. Baby Raymond Werden born to Werden Granter and Shirley DeVine. Ralph Smith recovering at Mercy Hospital. Community events include a Christian Home program and visits from military families and workers.
