Iowa BPW Annual Meeting Weaves Women’s Progress

Des Moines hosted 371 Iowa BPW members May 16 18 across 90 clubs. Topics included 1975 76 program Bicentennial Perspective for Women and ERA ratification. Barbara Dean attended from Mobile Alabama along with state officers and chaired workshops and awards. Members Jean Mason Dorothy Reed Cle Dickersbach and Virginia Conner attended from the local club.

Roberta Earns NWMSU Degree in Elementary Education

Roberta Jean Thaller daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert G Thaller earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a Psychology minor at Northwest Missouri State University Maryville during May 11 commencement in Lamkin Gym. She will start teaching in Craig Missouri this fall.

May Breakfast Draws 50 at St Johns Ladies Aid Meeting

St Johns Ladies Aid met at the church on May 14 at 9 am with over 50 in attendance. Twenty five members and about 31 guests plus 9 children were present for the May Morning Breakfast. Devotions were given by Virginia Bowen Waive Leu and Lois Leu. A brief discussion covered snacks for Vacation Bible School on June 28. Hostesses were Libby Grindle Mrs Harry Meyer Alma Knop and Mable Axtell.

Central College grants BA to 240 seniors in May ceremony

Phyllis Axtell led Central College’s May 15 graduation as one of 240 seniors receiving Bachelor of Arts degrees. Daughter of Gordon and (Mrs) Axtell from rural Silver City, she joined the audience as Dean James W. Graham delivered the commencement address titled Reflections from a Slow Learner. Central College, affiliated with the Reformed Church, is a four year liberal arts college in Pella with international branch campuses.

Byron Leu to Receive Master’s in Animal Science

Byron Leu will receive his Master’s degree in Animal Science this Saturday at 9:30 a.m. during Iowa State University’s annual commencement in Ames. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Leu of Hastings, plan to attend.

Two area residents Kari Shere of Malvern and Patricia Tudor of Hastings will graduate from Iowa Western Community College on Friday May 23 as part of a 128 member class. Towa Congressman Thomas Harkin will speak at the Clarinda campus at 10 AM and at the Council Bluffs campus at 3 PM. Degrees to be presented at Clarinda include Associate of Arts 42, Associate of Science 6, Associate of Applied Science 11, and diplomas 10. Council Bluffs graduates include Associate of Arts 40, Associate of Applied Science 23, diplomas 26, and certificates 6.

DVBS runs June 9 through 13 at Malvern Community idle school with theme Jesus Touch Me. Programs cater to children aged 3 and up to sixth grade. many teachers recruited but more helpers welcome. Malvern Couple Graduate From Edmundson Nursing School

Allen J. Hall 30 and Bonnie Spiker Hall register nurse will graduate with 29 others from Jennie Edmundson Hospital School of Nursing in Council Bluffs. Hall earns honors and will receive diploma from R R Swift as Dr Paul de Freese delivers the commencement address at Abraham Lincoln High School. The Halls plan further study and a July birth as they reside in Malvern with relatives near Red Oak.

Mills County Historical Society Museum to Open May 26

The Historical Society announces the Mills County Museum opens Memorial Day weekend for the summer season from 2 to 5 p.m. on May 26 and each Sunday thereafter. Admission is 25 cents for adults. Society president Mrs. Fern Widows notes new acquisitions and displays to welcome visitors.

Mrs Ira Bell honored at Saturday morning music hour for her birthday on Sunday. Residents made cookies served with punch.
