Mills County Women's Clubs Meet In Malvern

Mills County Federation of Women's Clubs held its annual meeting in Malvern Community building on May 9 with 83 members registering and representation from every club in the county. Mrs H T Beattie chaired the session at 1:30 pm. The program featured violin and vocal numbers by local members and reports on club activities, with songs and performances noted as highlights.

The Poppy Appeal Message From the American Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary urges wearing the poppy as a tribute to fallen and serving veterans. One cent from each purchase funds care for hospitalized veterans and others still affected by war, with a film shown next week explaining the poppy’s meaning and memorial purpose.

A general meeting of the Ineal American Legion selected W. H. Seaton as chair and W. P. Wortman as secretary to organize Decoration Day observances. The main program will be at the Liberty Memorial building with a cemetery program extended. R. Chantry named Marshal and Edgar Johnson to preside. Committees cover speakers music finance transportation and graves marking, with a full list to be announced next week.

Eighth Grade Commencement at Community Building

Eighth grade commencement set for Thursday evening May 24 at the Community Building. The program starts at eight with a two act play The Unexpected Mess of Catherine Henry by Lindsey Barbee performed by the girls. Boys sing three songs including Champeen Baseball Nine Safle or s Songs and Big Chief Not Afraid of His Lessons with Percy Atkinson in solo parts. Diplomas to be presented. No admission charge.

Malvern High School presents In Cherry Time a senior class play starring Ruth Johnson Connie and Lona Panking among others. John Frasier portrays Fritz the fruit grower with Marie Rigging as Flossie Barnes. Curtain rises eight with doors opening seven thirty, admission 25 and 36 cents.

The Malvern Garden Club planted an elm in Pad dock Park near the library as a memorial to Mr and Mrs John J Paddock pioneers and long time residents. A dedication program is planned in the park next Tuesday afternoon May 22.

Malvern Athletics Triumphs Over Missouri Valley

Malvern Athletics defeated Missouri Valley 13 to 6 to stay tied for league leadership. Metord drove eight hits, Nieman homered and tripled, and Manher went five for eight with four hits. Malvern cruised with four runs in the second, eight in the sixth, and one in the eighth, boasting a team batting average of .837 and fielding .960 over two games. Next Sunday Malvern hosts Vinton Athletica.

Rural Eighth Grade Graduation at Malvern

On Tuesday May 2 at the Community building in Malvern the rural eighth grade graduation will occur. The program begins at 2 30 p m with demonstrations by nearby schools and songs by combined choirs. Ray Q H Freedline of Glenwood will give four short addresses and diplomas will be presented to about ninety graduates. The tentative program includes preludes, demonstrations, dramatizations, folk dances, flag drills, and songs celebrating America.
