Farmers oppose federal super highway plan
H A McCain Mills County Farm Bureau president reports Farm Bureau opposition to a postwar federal super highway scheme. The proposal calls for three billion dollars to upgrade the present system, but excludes secondary farm to market road improvements and allocates funds by population, neglecting sparsely populated, distant areas near markets and surfaced highways. The plan suggests federal pay 75 percent and states 25 percent for eight new highways, replacing existing routes, a point Farm Bureau disputes.
