National Wildlife Week prompts questions on wildlife value

National Wildlife Week March 21 to 27 urges reflection on humanity’s need for wildlife. It argues progress tied to war, budget, and GDP hides environmental harm from polluted air, poisoned water, and urban buildup. It calls for rethinking what truly marks progress.

Wildlife and people both need clean air and water

The Iowa Conservation Commission argues wildlife is an early warning system for pollution and that progress should include wildlife. It asserts humans and wildlife share basic needs, and planners must provide space and natural foods for wildlife to protect health and survival, rejecting an either wildlife or people mindset.
