Severe storm trims power and farms lose stock
An electric thunderstorm swept through Shenandoah Tuesday evening, knocking out power for about twelve hours. A sow, three pigs, and a calf owned by Emmett Maher were killed by lightning. Telephones failed and service was crippled. Local residents, including Butter Butcher Doyle, family visits to Omaha, and relatives traveling to Iowa, were noted amid hospital stays, military moves, and upcoming weddings, with several locals reported away at camps in Texas and the South Pacific.
