Recreation Growing In Importance To Conservation Thinking

Recreation in the United States is expanding into a major industry with public parks and rural lands rising as key sources. A U S Department of Agriculture study finds private rural land offers the greatest future potential for outdoor facilities, as Watershed projects like Mule Creek Pitot advance. In Mills County, the Scheffel farm on Dr M L Scheffel's property features a cabin, boat dock, swimming area, fishing stock, and a 1000+ tree collection across 15 species. Summers see peak activity with picnics, fishing, canoeing, and youth group events, while fall and winter bring duck hunting and ice skating. Information on private recreation area development is available from local Soil Conservation District offices.
