First Terraced Bench Forms On Bob Glynn Farm
Bob Glynn and his son Mike showcase the first bench terraces in the Rawles area, south of Malvern. The 1-2 back slope is permanently seeded, costing 18 percent of land out of production but yielding a 32 percent productivity gain. The SCS favors a corn beans rotation, though it requires extra fertilizer and herbicides. The terrace holds all rainfall, reduces maintenance, and enables cultivation without point rows. Glynn says he will judge its value after a year, though he sees potential and notes a new tillage approach. More pictures on page 6.
