Along Main Street With Pete Graham
A column blends local finance talk and social quips. It critiques a state tax relief bill as favoring rich landowners, laments low relief for small landowners, and notes humor from a Hastings rodeo and a politics cartoon moment. The piece ends with a friendly sign off.

Bass Feels Prop Tax Rise Has Been Nipped in the Bud
Senator Earl G Bass reports in the Senate that appropriation bills bring modest increases, with a state department budget up about 5000 and Board of Regents up about 23 million. A new conference committee aims to craft school aid and tax increase plans, keeping tax rises minimal and possibly reducing local tax through spending cuts. Reapportionment plans in both houses propose enlarging the Senatorial District by adding townships from West Adams and Southeast Pottawattamie counties, targeting a population around 55,613 within a 15 percent deviation. Legislature expected to adjourn next week.

Youth Bill of Rights Proposed by Booth Vallentine
Mills County Parkaureau columnist Booth Vallentine argues a Youth Bill of Rights with four provisions: a stable home, quality education, a justly proud state and nation, and faithful living. He decries parental and national failure to provide these, links lack of home life and education to youth distrust, and urges faith in God and adherence to commandments to safeguard future generations.
