Emerson Students Earn Tarkio College Second Honors
Bernie Patton and Charles Kellenbarger, natives of Emerson, earned Tarkio College second honors as freshmen after completing at least 24 hours of A and B work. Mehl served as sergeant at arms and several officers and a pianist were listed with names and roles. Socially, Martha Honeyman and Corena Birdsall hosted executive board refreshments.

Auxiliary Reports Highlight $75 Poppy Sale Earnings
The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion hall Friday afternoon. Poppy sale proceeds totaled $75 with 400 poppies sold in Emerson. Members and families shared cookies and drinks, while members visit shut-in neighbors and plan July calling. Nancy Philling was elected District Junior President. lessons include hospital worker orientation and district conventions.

Funeral Services Held for W. W. Abel in Emerson
W W Abel died Sunday in Red Oak Memorial hospital after a stroke. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Emerson Methodist Church with Rev. Lyman Smith officiating and burial in Emerson Cemetery. Pallbearers included James Huntsman, Vernon Johnson, Fred Huntsman, Horace Greenwood, Frank Durbin and Dr L C Blank. ushers Earl Crawford and Wilbur Morrigan. Abel, born August 9, 1876, on the Abel farm west of Emerson, lived in Emerson most of his life and was a pharmacist who ran a drug store here until 1948. He married Cora Armstrong in 1902. they had a son Bruce who died in 1921. He was survived by three sisters, a niece and nephew, and many friends. The obituary notes his church, lodge, school board service, cemetery association, and interests in flowers, hunting, fishing, golf, and travel.
