Malvern Coeds Graduate From Iowa University With Distinction
Lara Beckwith and Patricia Newell, Malvern graduates, earn distinction as top ten percent of the Liberal Arts senior class at the University of Iowa. Beckwith, a Russian and French BA, and Newell, a psychology BS, both hold 3.4 GPAs and will pursue further studies after June graduation. Beckwith plans an MA in Russian at the University of Washington. Newell will study library science and teaching credentialing after graduation.

Beckwith’s Russia trip and a long list of honors
Beckwith toured Russia with two students, recalling the kindness of people. New junior year she attended a language program in Middlebury, Vermont, speaking only Russian for seven weeks. She is active in Alpha Lambda Delta, Pi Lambda Theta, Alpha Chi Omega, Phi Beta Kappa, and the National Slavic Monetary Society. She worked part time as assistant librarian at the Iowa Historical Society and will be the fourth in her family to earn a degree from the University of Iowa, where her father holds a D.D.S. degree.

Omaha teens injured when car hits embankment
An Omaha 28 year old, Carolina R. Trimble, suffered lacerations and a broken arm when her car missed a curve and struck an embankment south of Mineola Saturday morning. Dianna Kingo, 16, and Regina Davis, both of Omaha, also injured. All were taken to an Omaha hospital.

Mills Driver Injured In Pacific Junction Crash
Ella Pont, 47, operator of a Pacific Junction tavern, was hospitalized with chest, leg, and internal injuries after her car left the road and hit a ditch five miles north of Pacific Junction. Sheriff reports she fell asleep at the wheel causing the accident.

Two Mills Co bridges to be let June 20 at Ames
County Engineer Chuck Weber reports highway commission will let two Mills County bridges in Ames on June 20. One is a 12 by 11 foot beam bridge over Kes Creek four miles northeast of Glenwood. The other is a 28 by 10 foot concrete continuous bridge on Pony Creek four miles north of Pacific Junction. A July starting date is planned.

Stinemans Buy Raszler Home in Malvern Note
Mr and Mrs Daniel Stineman purchased the Leo Raszler residence on North Lincoln Avenue in Malvern and will take possession immediately The Raszlers plan to move to Cornell Bluffs as the Stinemans join Malvern schools next fall with Mr Stineman serving as math instructor and football coach and attending summer school prior to the new term.

Vivian Houts Named New 1st Grade Teacher
Mrs. Vivian Houts of Percival plans to teach first grade in Malvern Community Schools. Supt Crink says one more instructor is needed for next year's staff, including vocal music. Houts holds a degree from Peru State College and taught in Sidney for 12 years.

Tractor Driver Fined for Failing to Yield
Floyd Ragland age 14 of Glenwood Route 2 was fined ten dollars and costs by Justice Carl Romley for failure to yield. The tractor he drove collided head on with four car Bonavan Swisher of Glenwood Route 2 on a county road six miles south of Glenwood Saturday afternoon. Damage totaled 500 to the car and 450 to the tractor. Ragland was treated for leg injuries by Dr Kk D Rodabaugh of Tudor.
