London reports King Edward's doctors fix August 9 as the coronation date. The king, aided by a stick, has walked and is seen on deck at Cowes. invitations not dated are clarified by a Gazette proclamation. The royal party to Buckingham Palace for August 18, Balmoral and London visits are outlined, with optimistic plans despite lingering uncertainties.
Generals Delarey and Botha were given an ovation at Stellenbosch. They were driven to the town hall in carriages drawn by sixty students, who served as waiters at a luncheon. Botha called the surrender day painful yet God’s will, and Afrikaner nationalism remained the core social factor.
Cape Town July 30 The wedding of General Delarey’s daughter to his secretary Ferreiga drew immense crowds. Generals Botha and Dewet were welcomed with cheers as they entered the Dutch Reformed church. Dewet was carried from the church by supporters.
United States Indian commissioner William A. Jones visits Los Angeles to review the local commission’s site recommendations for relocating the Varney Ranch Indians. He wires Washington approving the plan and an action on the report is expected within a few days.

In Arizona a starving Yaqui band of thirty attacked the Carmel ranch near Hermosillo. Mexican troops rescued them after fierce fighting. two women and five men were killed. Fifteen captives, including two Yaqui chiefs, were marched to Hermosillo for sentencing by General Torres. The group is believed to be the last remnant of the Yaqui fighters.
Washington July 30 Rear Admiral Coughlan filed the navy department a report on the ceremonies at Southampton for the late Lord Pauncefote former British ambassador to Washington. Lady Pauncefote expressed heartfelt thanks to the American people for honors shown and asked the admiral to convey gratitude to President Roosevelt and his cabinet.
Hot Springs South Dakota July 30 managers of the national home for United States soldiers located the site of the National sanitarium here and selected the central site back of the Hotel Evans comprising 100 acres A deed to perpetual use of water from the warm springs was donated by Congressman Martin of Deadwood owner of the springs at Hot Springs
Montreal steamship interests vow vigorous protest against subsidizing the Canadian Pacific railway to operate a passenger and fast freight line across the Atlantic. They warn such action would crush competing steamship lines. Board of Trade and the Exchange plan meetings to seek measures to block the subsidy.
Washington July 30 reports indicate the lower house of Cuba’s congress passed a resolution saying the US church property settlement need not bind the current Cuban government, asserting the church was a party to the recent agreement but not necessarily bound by it.

Des Moines July 80 Governor Cummins weighs how to entertain President Roosevelt during the visit to Des Moines. He prefers a small gathering and a public address at the Auditor ium rather than a public reception, citing the president’s dislike of handshakes. A dinner or luncheon at Grand Avenue residence may allow Roosevelt to meet a few friends away from crowds.
Des Moines reports from Mount Pleasant State hospital show a larger number of inebriates treated than expected. In the last year forty four were admitted, including six women misclassified as insane. Courts sent five more, and the Board of Control sent three state patients. Twenty one were discharged cured, six withdrawn by court order, three escaped, and three died. Twenty six remained hospitalized on July 1.
Report by Commandant Horton for the year ended June 30 shows the hospital was much needed with over 100 patients in residence at all times. In the wards 460 were treated while many others received care in rooms, and the home cared for 1,089 veterans this year, up 223 from the prior year. 55 deaths occurred on the rolls.

In Creston Iowa July 80 Superintendent O W Stewart denies a circulating rumor that Burlington road division superintendents would be reorganized with O W Fabens of Ottumwa to take a new post. Fabricated talk unsettles employees and local residents.
Iowa's next legislature will be asked to grant a right of way for a drain from the proposed Morey hospital at Marshalltown through state land near the Soldiers' Home. Mather Lenihan urged entry on state land. Attorney General says only legislature can grant such use. temporary arrangements likely until formal authorization is obtained. The hospital site is noted as a beautiful tract near the soldiers' home.
Des Moines reports the Grand Army post at Mount Pleasant plans a monument in Forest Home cemetery near Mount Pleasant to honor Charles Shephard, a Revolutionary soldier buried in Henry county. Daughters of the Revolution helped locate the grave on a farm by Millspaugh mills and Skunk river. the legislature allotted 500 dollars for a monument at Mount Pleasant, while the post will oversee marking and care of the grave.
Des Moines July 26 Iowa commission on the Louisiana Purchase exposition schedules another meeting on the state fair grounds during the fair week. A report from the upbuilding committee on preliminary plans for the Iowa building at St Louis is expected along with a rules and regulations report. Architects will be employed to draft preliminary plans and estimate costs. If approved, a contract for detail plans will be made and a committee directed to secure contractor bids.
Henry Romnhold was arrested for passing Confederate bills at three or four bakeries and grocery stores in Des Moines. He claims he bought a package of the bills in Dubuque for 50 cents and was passing them to make money. Authorities deem him slightly insane after he admits escaping from a hospital in Independence.
A fanciful tale from Sava Pearson's Weekly describes spiders in Java forests with webs so strong a knife is needed to cut them. A four pound spider allegedly uses lamp oil in a cathedral Munich. A Texas spider weaves a four by two foot balloon, attaches it to a tree, then sails away with her brood to the prairie.
Lord Palmerston faced a rebuke from Prime Minister Lord John Russell after welcoming Lofile Kossuth to England. Palmerston replied bluntly that he would decide whom to receive in his house and would not be dictated to about his guests. He noted he had not detained Russell’s messenger.

William Numley arrested at Denison Iowa has offered a full confession to the murder of Fred Powell a Milwaukee Road brakeman in Sioux City Iowa on July 26 reporting and details indicate the confession covers motive and method connecting Numley to the fatal attack
