Henderson Storm Wrecks Farmland and Townsfolk Trades
Heavy rains north of town caused the river to overflow into cornfields and flood roads. A windstorm toppled a windmill, damaged a chicken house, shattered a bay window, and damaged trees while telephone lines failed. Fourth of July celebrations were disrupted as people sought shelter in Oakland and Red Oak. Insurance adjusters worked to assess the widespread damage. Several residents visited relatives or returned from trips, and Carson beat Henderson 24 to 1 in a local baseball game.
