Pheasants urged to raise mower blades during nesting season
DES MOINES IOWA Town farmers are urged by State Conservation Commission Game Officials to delay mowing government acres as long as possible. The wind and rain have hindered pheasant nesting and many hens are killed on nests during mowing. Officials ask mower blades be raised eight to ten inches to protect birds. Fred McLain chairman of the state committee backs the request and says letters will go to farmers urging cooperation while nesting. Afterward weeds can be controlled.
