Not Too Late to Stop Chinch Bugs in Mills County
Creosote oil usage in Mills County from June 26 to 29 totals over 2000 gallons, with sixty five gallon drums arriving Tuesday and only twenty left by Saturday. Many chinch bugs already infest corn fields, prompting some farmers to forego barriers though barriers remain valuable to prevent spread from small grain fields. A further car of creosote is expected around July 5, with limited supply until then. Farm Bureau offices in Red Oak and Malvern offer creosote and information on barrier types and timing. About 34 people visited the bureau last week seeking help, mostly for chinch bugs, while creeping jenny was less of a concern.
