Legislation Aims at Advance Farm Payments

Congressman William Jo Seberle of Tthelowa has introduced a bill to require the Secretary of Agriculture to issue 30 percent advance payments to farmers participating in the 1968 feed grain program. The measure seeks to relieve pressure to sell corn prematurely and ensure cash for fertilizer, seed, and supplies for planting. Its timing matters as the administration has not committed to continuing the advance payments and may change decades old policy.
