R Burgein elected president of Silver City State Bank at annual meeting held Tuesday. Officers include J H Kruse as vice president Kenneth Carlson cashier and several directors. WSC group to meet Thursday Jan 26 at James Burgoin home with a pot luck luncheon. Also notes on Baptist Church meeting and social visits in Council Bluffs and Henwood.
The Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall and planned a Fead sale on Feb 4 to raise money for sending a girl to Girls State in Cedar Falls this summer. Delegates Mrs Harriet Hendrix and Mrs Mildred Kruse were elected for the mid winter conference in Des Moines. New member Mrs Mildred Kruse joined, and Grace McNay spoke on Legislation.
An all day Baptist church institute is planned with Rev. Ray Hecert leading devotions at 10 am. Speakers include Rev. Henry McCanna of Central Baptist Theological Seminary Des Moines Rev. Charles Martin Iowa State Convention Des Moines and Rev. Glenn Emmert pastor of Malvern First Baptist. A noon sack lunch and 6:30 pm covered dish supper follow a film strip on rural church programs.
The Silver City Band Roosters sponsor a fund drive to raise money for Rand uniforms ordered for the Rand Contest in April. They plan a ham supper on Saturday night January 21 from 3:50 until finish at the Methodist church to support the effort.
A local newspaper item reports the installation ceremony for the 1.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodges held last Thursday. Officers were installed with Gladys Petty honored, and multiple lodge members named for Noble Grand and other posts. The column also lists community visits, hospital updates, and a Christmas Seed drive appeal with donations sought by January 31.
Governor Lea A Hoegh signed a proclamation declaring January and February Navy Sign-Up Months in Iowa to aid the national drive for volunteers. Rear Admiral Emmet P Forrester accepted the proclamation in Des Moines and urged Iowans to assist the Navy. The report also lists numerous local social notices and visits across Council Bluffs Fremont and Port Calion with relatives and friends, plus soldiers on leave and community events.
