Hog market outlook and farm savings impact analysis

Analysis by Francis A Kurtish of Iowa State College indicates that winter hog prices will be influenced by producers cutting back in spring to maintain market balance. With fewer pigs saved per litter, hogs going to market rise while overall output tightens. Despite a 10 percent rise in 1952 spring saving, marketings remain heavy this fall, but should ease after mid spring as production shifts. The text also notes anticipated continued strong hog sales into late fall and a potential livestock market strength due to summer pig crop and feed shortages.
