Malvern Loan Fund group marks third birthday

Malvern Community Student Loan Fund, a tax exempt group founded February 28 1959, celebrates its third birthday later this month. It raises funds to provide loans to Malvern High School graduates based on scholarship need and citizenship, with 2 percent interest and a co-signer life insurance requirement. Nine students have received loans. two repay, seven remain in school.

Meet Our Teachers By Nancy Lisle

A new teacher in our school system this year is Mrs. Donald Breshears teaching kindergarten. She attended Grace land college in Lamoni for two years and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education after twenty years at the State College of Iowa in Cedar Falls. Before Malvern she taught second grade in Evansdale. Mrs Breshears resides in Cedar Falls and enjoys music.

Hastings Circles Joint Meet At Methodist Church

The W S C S Circles met at the Methodist church with 10 members present. Rev Willis Grant showed a film Wider Grows the Kingdom in observance of world day of prayer. District Declam Contest to Beat Red Oak Feb 24

The district declam contest will be held Saturday February 24 at Red Oak. This year the Iowa High School Speech Association has omitted preliminaries, leaving only district and state contests. MCHS will have representatives in five fields humorous oratorical dramatic interpretive poetry and interpretive prose. Students earning I's at the district contest will advance to the state contest in Shenandoah on March.

MCHS Seniors Plan Spring Skip Trip to Chicago

MCHS seniors will depart May 20 for a three to four day Chicago tour. Plans include visits to Adler Planetarium Shedd Aquarium Museum of Natural History and Museum of Science and Industry plus a Lake Michigan boat trip and a Chicago river cruise. Optional stops include Marshall Fields Board of Trade Tower and Skid Row tour if time permits.

Largest Chemistry Class at School Packs Facilities

Mr England faces one of the largest chemistry classes at MHS with 30 students. The unit covers the composition and changes in substances, basic chemistry concepts, and applications from metals to plastics and photography. The course uses film strips and laboratories to enliven learning.
