Corn Plantings Outlook Heavy ’72 Crop Foreseen

LaVerne C. Obrecht notes potential for a large 1972 corn crop with USDA data showing growers plan 70 million acres across 35 states. Iowa would plant nearly 12 million acres, a 4 percent drop from 1971, while overall US acreage would be above five to six year averages. Wisner warns these tentative figures may overstate actual plantings and could pressure prices next fall.
