OBS Past Matrons Meet Friday Night at Silver Urn

Robert Airs presided at a 6:00 p.m. dinner meeting of the OBS Silver Urn Chapter with 14 members and one guest Mrs. Phyllis Skerritt of Silver City. Hostesses were Mrs. Gerald Bower Dudley Conner and Clod Naffsing. Mrs. Kenneth Jones welcomed Mrs. O Dell and presented a miniature gavel. Officers elected were Mrs. Jones president and Mrs. T W Gidley Jr secretary. Margara Buliman shared photos from Africa. Cards were signed for absent Past Matrons.

Southwest Iowa Baptists Convene at Harlan

Southwestern Iowa Baptist representing 48 churches met at Harlan Baptist Church for a 4th District Re Organization meeting. Rev. Darrell Heidner served as moderator. Officers elected for 1970 included Calvin Bartelson as moderator Rev. Douglas Butler as vice moderator and Mrs. John Naragan as secretary treasurer. Dr. H. E. Coulter installed the new officers. Malvern representatives attended.

Musical group from Omaha enhances Nishina Cottage program

Residents of the Nishna Cottage Rest Home enjoyed a rare Sunday afternoon concert by a Country and Western group from Omaha and Council Bluffs. The act featured Leora and Laurier Birgal, Glen and Dune Kephart, Marie Carson, Lola Holmes, John Prinley, Edd Holmes, Claire Douglas, Tabor, and George and Ramona Anson, with resident Grandpa Ballain on the French Harp joining in.

Open House Showcases Bean Extruder at Emerson Hall

Wide interest followed the soybean extruder demonstration held at the Emerson Legion Hall on Monday. Dean Fender and Darrell Taylor of Hastings led the event with door prizes awarded to Paul Carlson and Brent Van Wouton of Red Oak, William McGrew and Dwaine Jepsen of Emerson, and Blane Smith of Carlson.

S C Cub Scouts Pack Meeting and Banquet Planned

Silver City Pack 280 met at the Legion Hall with 36 attending. The meeting opened with the Cub Scout sign and pledge, Knights code read, Cubs gave promise, and sang Battle Hymn of the Republic. Den 1 presented skits and Den 2 a stunt. James Maddocks and others received awards. traveling trophy went to Den 1. February marks scouting’s 60th anniversary and Cub Scouts 40th. next event a Blue and Gold Banquet in February.
