Two groups of petit jurors were named this week for service if needed in the January term of district court. Group I includes names from Tabor Malvern Glenwood and others. Group II lists jurors for Glenwood Malvern Silver City Hastings and nearby towns and individuals.
Eightth Fatality From Mills County Head-On Crash
A head-on collision on Highway 34 near Glenwood at about 9 30 p m on December 22 claimed Eldon Thomas 41 of Glenwood as Mills County s eighth traffic fatality of the year. Thomas lost control and hit a mail truck driven by William Hankins 38 of Shenandoah, Hankins and his wife sustained injuries while Thomas was trapped and later died at a Council Bluffs hospital. Survivors include his wife and seven children along with other relatives. Services were held at Raynor Lett and Kent Funeral Home.

Christmas Tree Burn by Malvern Scouts at Fairgrounds
Malvern Scouts plan a Christmas tree burn at Mills County Fair Grounds on Tuesday January 2 starting at 7 p.m. The large bonfire will be visible from afar and serves as a festive way to dispose of holiday trees. Deputy Recovers 26 Cowhides Near East Liberty Church
Deputy Sheriff Al West recovered 26 cowhides that had been salted and ready for tanning on Christmas day after a report sighted near East Liberty church. The hides appeared stolen from a packing plant.
