The Malvern High School Student Council hosted a Marshmallow World themed Christmas Ball Saturday at the Community Building. About 150 attendees enjoyed a semi formal dance with decorations including a 14 foot fir tree, a recreed snow scene, and cake and punch served during intermission.
Malvern's MHS vocal and band groups presented their annual holiday program at the Community Building Friday evening. The girls free club opened with Mister Santa and other carols. mixed chorus sang Sleigh Ride and more. eighth grade triple trio performed. madrigal sung. Ed Mulholland soloist. band closed with Spirit of Freedom and several holiday selections.
Interviewed by Bess Ellis, Malvern High School spotlights Mrs. Cleta Salyers who teaches home economics. Born in Maryville Missouri she earned a BS in education and returned to MHS after a hiatus. She and her husband Thomas E. Salyers live in Malvern with two sons Randall and Roger. She praises MHS and notes improvements since her return.
Malvern high school basketball students are bound for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics tournament at Omaha Civic Auditorium on December 27. Four small college games are on the schedule with a clinic in the afternoon and evening games. Ed Mansur directs the girls team coach duties while Jack McGee leads the boys team. Principal A. H. Nothem and Bill Baer will drive the bus.
Fifteen year old Kathy Knop, 16, a standout at M H S, participates in Mixed Chorus, Girls Glee, Madrigal, Annual Staff, Student Council treasurer, Girls Trio and Ensemble, Band, FHA, and cheerleading. She was Homecoming Queen candidate, sang a solo at the Variety Show, and earned a state music contest rating last year. Kathy enjoys shorthand, writing letters, collecting spoons, and playing piano. Her favorites include Climax, Four Freshmen, Tony Bennett, and blue berry pie.
ITTLE TATTLE reports the Busy Bees 411 club hosted a Christmas dinner at Strahan church with mothers preparing a turkey meal, games, gift exchange, and a skit by Patty Swett. It notes upcoming TV interview on KMTV about 4-H and marketing with the Utterback family, plus a Jan 18 lesson on freezer use and TV meals. A vacancy on the Deer- Indian Creek family snvag committee leads to Mrs Milo Wlazek of Emerson's appointment for two years. Extension Council hosts Jan 7 meeting with members' spouses. bread lessons and leader training updates from Glenwood and Malvern.
