Love and duty collide in a mountain town farewell
The narrator recounts Craig and Mrs Mayor's secret love, Graeme and Nelson guiding them toward truth, and a farewell ride as the mountain men bid goodbye. Craig vows to become a better man, while Mrs Mayor faces the long separation with quiet courage, and Nelson's death fractures the group.
