Iowa cattle prices seen rising in 1967 says Futrell

Iowa State University economist Gene Futrell predicts cattle prices will climb above 1966 levels in 1967 with notable gains in the second half of the year. He cites slower cow herd growth, higher slaughter rates, and tighter feed supplies as factors shaping the market, advising feeders to monitor cow culling and heifer replacements as key indicators. Winter quarter projections place choice steers at Chicago around 26 then 22, with 27 to 30 expected later in the year versus 24.50 to 26.50 earlier in 1966.
