A busy week with numerous Omaha and Council Bluffs visits by residents and guests. Mr. and Mrs. Juelke, Mr. and Mrs. Wills, Miss Finley, and many others traveled between Malvern, Omaha, and surrounding towns. The community hosted a lawn social for the parsonage fund and a Cottage Hotel house party with former Omaha students.
Roy Wilkes wins the mile in 2 09 at Malvern. exhibits feature art and farm displays. Local fairgoers praise paintings by Edith Snyder and other Malvern artists while noting strong fruit, vegetable, cake and bread entries. Exhibits cover farming, plumbing, machinery, and tools with judges and prize winners named. parade and fair day incidents noted.
Word reached yesterday that the Pinkertons captured H C Dunn for cashing forged Bank of Malvern checks and checks drawn on Red Oak and Shenandoah. He is in custody at Hed Oak. Dunn and his wife stayed at The Cottage Hotel this summer and traveled widely selling stock in an Omaha corporation. About three weeks ago they vanished as Dunn had cashed several $4125 checks with former employers signatures. The forgery was uncovered and Dunn was tracked to Detroit where he briefly evaded capture. He appeared clever but erred. locals express regret he chose crime.
Six prizes were awarded including John R. Maynes for best stallion, Chas H Summers and W A Summers for best mare, I J Swain & Sons for best bull and best boat, G KR Warrtn for best sow, and FF Ghantry for overall sweepstakes. W E Bacon of Oregon served as official starter, praised for handling a difficult post. poultry exhibit was strong with room for more entries, and a Brahma variety champion led the poultry results.
The Mills County Progressive party has secured Hon. W. J. Orchard of the Council Bluffs Nonpareil to speak tomorrow Sunday afternoon at the Glenwood Chautauqua. Orchard will discuss politics from a Progressive standpoint and the audience is urged to attend.
Two inmates Earl Morthenhall and Wm Willels broke jail at Glenwood Tuesday, making a Wood Ship escape. One near completion of his sentence, the other held to the grand jury for arson threats. If they stay away, it will save county expenses.
Mary Norris reports someone took the wrong pair of dark blue trousers from her Pantalorium last Thursday. She asks for the correct larger pair to be returned before Saturday noon.
Salyers records a death notice for Lynn Moore son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Moore at their Chico California home. The paper previously noted his serious condition with spinal meningitis and other complications from August 5th until death, and extends condolences to the sorrowing family.
