Political Upheaval At Marshalltown Iowa Democratic Convention
After a fractious convention the Iowa Democratic Party faces a divided path with currency policy as the clash point. Free coinage was defeated 651 to 420, nominating Judge W. J. Babb for governor and S. I. Bestow for lieutenant governor though Bestow will not campaign. Silver faction leaders mock the party’s stance, while many county and local officials plan resignations and GOP gains appear likely this fall.
