Final Rites for Sgt R C Adams Held Wednesday
Memorial services were held at Malvern Methodist Church for Master Sergeant Russell C Culner Adams who died August 10 1942 at Offutt Air Base Hospital Omaha. The Rev John L Deehout conducted with Mansfelds Funeral Home in charge. Adams enlisted in 1917 served in France in World War I returned to service in 1927 married Lilian M Dodson in 1929 and had a daughter Nancy Lee and a son Ward Gregory. Surviving are his wife two children two sisters and a brother. He served in the 17th Pureult Squadron and had been due to sail for the Pacific before being ordered to remain in the U S He was a longtime Methodist and was active in church life. A final tribute noted his 27 years of service to the country.

Forty-one Mills county rural schools will open on Monday Sept 1, two fewer than last year. Three schools Wright Barr Oak Lyons township and Foxworthy south of Matyvern will be closed. One new school Union in Deer Creek towncamp will offset losses. Several teacher assignments are listed with many positions to be supplied.

Edwin Schoening of Ingraham Straight Shooters 4 H member won the livestock judging contest at the county fair with 234 points. Stunt Star Hurts in Final Fair Crash Show
Lucky Lee Lott staged a thrill show at Mills County Fair with crash stunts. Earl Mays of Darton, driving an old car, failed a ramp maneuver and crashed, suffering facial and head injuries and being rushed to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. Ted Mack Show Strong Hit At Malvern Fair
Rain moved the second night show to the Malvern Community building where Ted Mack’s Amateur unit drew strong audience interest. Phil Ramano hosted as masters of ceremonies guiding hillbilly acts tumblera dancers and popular music. The Tucker town Rascals family trio added vivid sound effects on washboard and accordion. Portly Lyle Banjamin delivered solid bass and whistle tones. Ann and Topgy Hanlon displayed trampoline tumbling while Carol Drickley mimicked barnyard sounds. Janie Weat sang cowgirl tunes with brisk yodeling and Dickie Myers impressed as a tap dancer. Shirley Ann Crouch closed the program with a final number.

McWilliams Begins Air Force Basic Training at Lackland
Richard L. McWilliams aged 18, son of Mrs. Wanda Greenwood of Malvern, is completing the Air Force basic indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base Texas known as Gateway to the Air Force. The base near San Antonio is the world’s largest and trains both men and women, housing the Human Resource Research Center and the Officer Candidate School. His training prepares him for technical schooling and specialized duty, with aptitude evaluation guiding his vocation and career path.

Final rites were held for Mrs W A Lang at Mans field Funeral Home with Rev John L Belbout officiating. The service included music by Frederick Larson and Mrs Horace Greenwood of Emerson. Surviving are husband Walter Albert Lang seven children twenty seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren along with siblings and a host of friends. She was born June 19 1872 near Emerson and died August 22 1902 after a long cancer battle.
