Mills County Road Work Campaign Steps Forward

John O Cantier of Atlantis urged The Lander to organize a campaign for Mills County road work with a target quota of about $2300. He said the effort would start once an official organization is formed. Aids Davnold delivered a large cabbage head for a community picnic, noting it weighed about a foot diameter and would supply sufficient slaw.

Hunting Licenses Offered At Malvern Fair Drive

The Jap Hunting Licenses will be sold through a war stamp drive linked to the Mills County Fair and available until 1 o'clock next Wednesday, August 12. The drive began last evening at 7 with 10 4-H girls and 10 Boy Scouts starting the sales in Malvern's downtown district under Mrs. FP M. Davison supervising the girls and Walt Wright overseeing the boys.

Jurors Selected for September Term Court at Glenwood

The September term of charter court will convene at Glenwood with Judge H Mant on the Neneh. Petit jurors are asked to appear Sept. 7. War Bond Day at Malvern Fair Aug 12 offers bonds and stamps

Malvern businessmen stage War Bond Day at the Milla County Fair August 11 and 12 with giveaways totaling three $35 bonds, three $6 stamp books, two books worth $2.60, and ten $1 stamps. Jap Hunting Licenses go on sale Aug 6 with a 25c stamp. bond recipients need claim numbers by Aug 13 at 8 p.m. Unclaimed items to be distributed after 5 p.m. An army jeep ride program will reward the first 260 bond buyers who register after 10 a.m. Aug 12. A list of participating merchants is provided. The Malvern municipal pool will close during the fair and reopen with lessons offered by Ester Nelson.

Bond chairmen meet here Thursday in wartime drive

Four townships were unrepresented at the meeting of township chairmen of the war bond sales drive here Thursday evening. Chairman John Ryans outlined the need for continued effort and the chairmen reported progress in their areas. The drive will continue with maximum force as Mille county remains well below its quota.

Malvern Stores Close For Mille County Fair Hours

Malvern stores will close for the Mille County Fair next Tuesday to Thursday. Afternoon hours are 1:30 to 4:90 and evenings close at 6:20 each day to allow patrons and employees to attend the fair.

Tire quota for August announced in Milln county

The Milln county office announced August quotas for passenger cars and trucks. Passenger cars receive three tires, 30 retreads and 20 tubes, while trucks get 36 tires, 16 retreads and 28 tubes.

Scrap Rally Day Promotes Farm Management Service Plan

Frank Summers from Indianola visited Scrap Rally Day to announce a September launch of a new farm management service in partnership with Myron D. Textrum of Ames. Summers, formerly with Farmers National Co. of Omaha, has strong records of boosting profits for both owners and operators through improved management. August Federal Crop Insurance Month in Iowa

The month of August is designated as Federal Crop Insurance Month in Iowa. Mills county AAA chair J. F. Wearin announced that during August wheat growers will file contracts for federal crop insurance on the 1943 crop. The program now offers three year contracts and a county wide premium rate schedule, with most farmers eligible to sign and share protection under the federal plan. More than 550 Mills county farmers are insured this year. Beneficiaries listed include Storz Brewing Co. and Jess Phelps, J. M. Bleela, P. B. Drink, with specific bushel amounts noted.

The Mills County Rationing Board set July 23 24 for canning sugar registration. Workers in towns volunteered to ease access for the public. Those who failed to register will receive sugar by calling at the Rationing Board Office in Glenwood on Mondays and Tuesdays each week.

Marticia Davis Accepts Position at Schenectady

Miss Martieia R. Davis of Albert Lea Minnesota spent the weekend with her mother Mrs Rachel Davis. She has accepted a position with General Electric at their Schenectady New York offices as an engineers assistant with an excellent advancement opportunity. She will leave Interstate Power Company Friday and begin her new duties Monday August 10.

Elliottts Move to Council Bluffs Ends Local Service

Mr and Mrs Lowell Elliott and Dirk moved to Council Bluffs last week ending a period of active leadership in town. Elliott was a past master of the Masonic lodge and chaired the boy scout troop committee. Mrs Elliott served as librarian in summer and was worthy matron of the local chapter of the US. Dirk enters the eighth grade in the fall and will be active in the scouts. Billott is now employed as a guard at the Martin bomber plant south of Omaha.

State Guard Demonstration at County Fair Thursday

The Headquarters Company and battalion of the State Guard will stage a Thursday evening display at the county fair. In full gear they will perform a one hour program including precision drill riot control and a formal review before the grandstand. Major Worrest Deviduen of Clarinda will review the parade.
