Chai’s Project Grows Into Midwest Major Event
Louis Knop traces the yearly celebration of the Fourth of July in Silver City back to 1947 after June floods damaged bridges. The first gatherings near St John’s church evolved into a large community event at the county fairgrounds, famed for auto push ball and a growing turnout that now attracts thousands each year. Various local families attended picnics, dinners, and gatherings at Glenwood Lake Park, with numerous households hosting visitors from Des Moines to Council Bluffs. The town’s social scene features anniversaries, birthdays, and a mix of church and civic events filling weekends with meals, games, and sunsets over the lake.
