Social Happenings at LWML International Meet Highlights

Delegates from this area, including Mrs Gordon Axtell and Mrs Alfred Sump, attended the LWML International convention in Washington D C July 18 20 discussing Christian social involvement. An auxiliary unit marked its 25th anniversary with a $225000 receiving drive to fund mission work at home and abroad.

Chicago guests honor Glenwood wedding plans

Mr and Mrs Vanderpool hosted a Sunday picnic in Glenwood for their daughter and family. Dr Kyoung Kim and Miss Grace Kyoung Kim from St Lukes Chicago attended with guests from Shenandoah Omaha Malvern Silver City and Kansas City. The couple plan to marry August 3 at Grace Methodist Church Glenwood with Tom Rubenking best man and Mrs Rubenking matron of honor. After vows they will honeymoon in New Jersey and visit a friend.

Mr. Vernon and Mrs. Carl Anderson with grandson Randy Anderson and others from Glenwood and Omaha visited Rich ard Maiers and family near Glenwood. Diane Anderson accompanied them home for a few days. Ted Larson and daughters attended a charity horse show matinee in Omaha at Aksarben Coliseum. Chester Waldo visited cousins Floyd Blackman and family in Scranton. Randy Anderson and others from Omaha and Glenwood joined the Metines charity society horse show in Omaha. Mrs. Robert Schroeder and Mrs. Norman Sinner attended a miscellaneous shower at Mrs. Keith Hopp home near Glenwood for Diane Hopp, Aug 26 bride elect of Des Schroeder. Bernard Studey hosted visitors from Glenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Studey, Donald Blackman Sr. and Jr., Penny and Daniel, who visited William Kelson Sr. in Council Bluffs, while Merie James of Grand Island also visited.

Jolly Janes Club holds bridal shower for Carolyn Neapp

Friday evening at Oaks the Jolly Janes Club hosted a bridal shower for Carolyn Neapp of Des Moines, whose wedding to Kenneth Marsden is planned by September 10. The event featured pencil games and a skit, gifts table, and refreshments, with many relatives and friends in attendance from Des Moines, Omaha, Red Oak, Shenandoah, and Clarinda.

First Baptist and First Methodist churches list a joint Sunday Aug 6 morning service led by Rev Clarence Woollard of Montayrn Methodist Church. Sunday school at 10 am and worship at 11 am. Evening youth fellowship at 6 pm at the Methodist church. Cottage prayer and Bible study Aug 8 at the Sinner home. The Methodist church notes a vacation pulpit exchange with the Baptists and a Sunday morning 11 am worship.

Agronomist Finds Good Nitrogen Use in Area

Area growers received crop plant checks at the Farm-Aid Service Center sponsored Ortho Crop Health Center in Silver City on July 25 and in Emerson on July 24. Melvin F. Williams led tissue testing for nitrogen phosphorus and potassium in corn and soybean samples, reporting varying levels across locations with highs in nitrogen at Silver City and mixed results in Emerson.

Lots of events planned for Mills County Fair Family Day on August 10 with Mrs. Robert Birkly of Sidney as featured afternoon speaker on family camping.
