Board Cuts Soldiers Relief Funds Through Taxes
The Mills county board of supervisors trimmed the soldiers relief budget for next year by $3,040 from tax-levied funds. The relief commission sought $11,000, with $8,000 raised by taxation and $3,005 unencumbered from this year. Expenditures rose from 1966 to 1967, with a proposed $11,000 next year, while the first half of this year showed a larger unencumbered balance than estimated. The commission, led by Paul Sulhoff, Glenwood. Glen Dalrymple, Malvern. and John Parker, Emerson, serves veterans in financial distress. The budget hearing had no objections or outside protest, and last year the board cut mental health spending by about $19,000 for an unencumbered balance.
