Ninth Annual Chautauqua Closes Strongly in Community
The Ninth annual chautauqua session concluded with broad praise for Midland Chautauqua Bureau, local committee, and W. S. Guyer. Attendees praised Norton entertainment, Devault company, and Prof Adrian lectures, with 476 season tickets sold and plans announced for next year. The closing program featured Dr. I A Parsons, Prof Paul Voelker, and Miss Elsie Brown readings, and overall the event was described as a success despite rainy days.

Mills County Board approves numerous payments in July session
Mills County Iowa board of supervisors met in the auditors office with C. Lakin chairing and W. M. Riles H. W. Gheyney present. They approved a long list of bills for county funds including printing firms Glenwood Opinion Malvern Leader and local merchants, plus salaries for county officers and jail expenses. They noted tax refunds and cancellations for certain veterans and property listings, and authorized the Standard Bridge Co to finish steel bridges under a 1912 agreement. The session continued to September 9 1917 for road petition actions and a road hearing in sections 28 and 29 two mile range 44.

Mills County Fair Opens With Fast Track and Wide Exhibits
The Mills County Agricultural Society announces the Malvern Fair August 6 to 9 at the Malvern Fair Grounds. Entries in poultry cattle swine and horses rise. a three day baseball tournament features Henderson Malvern Shenandoah and Tabor. The Silver City Band Midway and numerous attractions promise a large crowd and strong purses in coach class racing.
