48th Iowa General Assembly to Adjourn This Week
The 48th Iowa General Assembly closed with doubt over sustaining a two mill state tax levy for the next two years as detailed in the comptroller’s data. Final appropriations total about 16.27 million dollars per year for the biennium, with varying per diem allotments for state institutions and slight increases for two children’s institutions. The session featured a businesslike tone, no casualties, and mixed party collaboration on major measures, with potential political turnover looming in 1940 and 1946 races for Senate and House seats.
