Livestock Price Systems In Need Of Improvements
An ISU economist says price ceilings on beef pork and lamb may not affect producers if packer and retailer margins are enforced. Futrell explains ceilings tie to pre March 28 prices and rely on margin adjustments, with live animal prices likely guarded by high effective ceilings. Consumer resistance could slow wholesale movement and pressure live cattle hog and lamb prices.
