Ames economist urges corn grade reform to fit modern markets
Iona State University economist Bob Wisner told a Corn Quality Seminar in Ames on March 27 that long standing grain standards, including moisture and test weight, lag behind current technology. He urged lowering the No 2 moisture cap to 14 percent to reflect safer storage and reduce penalties for high moisture corn, and proposed replacing test weight with rapid tests for digestible nutrient and protein content as part of an industry wide reform to boost export prospects.
