Six and Half Pound Dolly Varden Trout
John Mayes landed a 23 inch Deschutes Valley Dolly Varden weighing 64 pounds last Tuesday a mile above Willow Creek. He fished with four large trout flies and dragged the fish out by hand as he could not lift it with his pole. The note adds that the “D. V.” mark on these fish stands for Deschutes Valley rather than Dolly Varden.

Getting Ready to Build Auto Garage
J C Robinson plans a new machine shop and auto garage east of Tucker Culp's blacksmith shop. The 50 2 50 foot building fronts south and will begin after Robinson returns from Portland with machinery including an iron lathe drill press and a vulcanizer. The shop is expected to open sometime in June.

J. B. Frem of Fairbanks Morse Co. predicts a gasoline pumping plant for Madras city wells could cost about 1000 dollars for a 150 foot lift. Experts say extending water mains citywide and fire protection would require an additional 2000 to 2500 dollars.

President John F. Stevens of the Oregon Trunk says a link toward Medford from the current terminus at the Klamath Indian Reservation border is being studied. The Pacific & Eastern and Oregon Trunk may extend from Butte Falls but no immediate construction is planned. Stevens denies plans to build to Blue Ledge mine or the coast, and cautions against speculation of further extensions.

The Oregon Trunk Railway and Deschutes Railroad settle running rights on Deschutes east bank tracks and crossing privileges. Deschutes gains running rights to 12 miles east of the river and access to a 500 foot south extension near Redmond. Indians Protest Boundary Changes At Warmspring Reservation
C C Covey superintendent of the Warmspring Indian Reservation led four Indians Ben Wilson Tullux Holhquilla Henry Queahpama and Albert Ruckup to Washington to file a complaint with the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. They allege repeated boundary changes have shrunk their land and left insufficient acreage for farming. Ben Wilson a Chemawa Indian School graduate will serve as interpreter.

Fire in Gem Restaurant Threatens Row of Homes
Last Monday evening just before six o'clock an attendant tried to refill a lit gasoline tank on a coffee heater and the gasoline caught fire. Volunteers used hand extinguishers to put out the blaze, which damaged the interior of the Gem Restaurant on Main Street, with a wooded block nearby posing a high risk if the fire had spread.
