Chicago Coliseum hosts 1074 GOP delegates for 1900 convention
The Chicago Coliseum on Wabash avenue near Fifteenth Street will host 1,074 delegates for the Republican national convention on June 18. The hall, opened in 1900 on the Libby prison site, seats 10,000 and features a steel arched roof and extensive exits. Delegates are allocated by state, with Illinois receiving 58 and New York 90 among others, plus two delegates each for Alaska Hawaii the Philippines and Puerto Rico.

James M. Baker aged 37 died June 7 at his parents' home after a year with Bright's disease. Funeral in the Christian Church with Rev. Carl Gilmer, burial in I O O F cemetery. Survived by parents three sisters and four brothers, with two brothers Charlie and Ray at bedside. Born February 1 1875 in Benton County Arkansas, he had been blind since age one half and studied at the Vancouver Washington school for the blind. He had lived in Madras for four years.
