Westside Mail Route Stay Hinges on Bid Prices
Colonel Frank W. Vailie of the Oregon Star routes says the Westside trail project is unlikely to start. Bids from Shaniko to Bend doubled expectations, about 4000 annually vs 2000 anticipated, due to no layover and added mail handling costs. If the stage company reverts to its original terms, the route may be reconsidered and a contract could be granted, aiding Madras Culver and Crooked River area patrons.
