Government land may be filed under mineral lays with placer claim style sizing about 20 acres. If oil is struck by the Madras company a rush to the area is likely.

Goon Grain Crop Nears Full insured prospects

Farmers report a heavy rain on Tuesday followed by a warm spell that revived grain prospects across the district. Observers say crops gained inches overnight and district-wide sentiment is optimistic for a large harvest this season.

School Meeting Next Monday at Madras Schoolhouse

Wool Sales at Shaniko Set for Next Tuesday

The second wool sale of the season at Shaniko will be held next Tuesday the 16th with a million pounds or more slated for sealed bid sale. Prices are down about one third from last season, reflecting the weak market. Nearly a million pounds moved at the first sale with bids from 0 to 14 cents, as growers accept the downturn. The Baldwins Sheep & Land Company clip, the largest at Shaniko, was not offered at the first sale.

Wind Rips Wheat Fields In Sherman County

Sherman county residents report severe winds blasting hundreds of acres of wheat from fields and smothering others with blown soil. Rain has left the ground damp but damage from the wind dominates farm reports today.
