Williamson New Trial Ordered After Supreme Court Reversal

The U S Supreme Court reversed the trial court on Williamson and remanded for a new trial on one instructional error. Dissenting Justice Harlan argued the lower court should stand. The decision leaves Biggs and Dr Gesner-Biggs unaffected but prompts a fourth trial for Williamson.

Contests Heard Before Referee In Madras

Testimony was taken in two land contest cases before Max Lueddemann, referee, at Madras last Monday. In Tillman Heuter v Frank Bratton abandonment was the grounds for contest. Morton Doty v Frank G Lucas concerns a homestead on Agency Plains with Doty favored after abandoned residence evidence. Lucas did not appear to defend.

New Porphyry Dike Rich in Gold Found in Crook County

George Hobbs first located the dike on Powell Buttes in Crook County during a 190% Summer hunt for stock. Nine miners staked the vein in January near Pricevisle, hailed as a potential second Silver King or Oregon King after Brown and Hobbs revisited the site with Lee Hobbs.

Belgium Stallion Replaces Lost Draft Horse

Haystack Livestock Assn president G Springer returns from Portland with Cesar de Gen a coal black Belgian stallion imported by A C Ruby & Company. The new stallion chosen to cross on the company’s mares as a replacement for their recently lost fine draft horse. Springer with twenty five years in the business calls Cesar de Gen one of the finest draft horse specimens he has seen.

County declines delinquent tax list publication

The county court will not advertise its delinquent tax list this year due to small tax items and little recovery for buyers. Unpaid taxes already lien properties, so court opts not to incur advertising and sheriff sale costs, allowing one year for delinquents to settle before normal disposal.
