First Train Car Rises Passengers on Oregon Trunk Run
The first outward run of the Oregon Trunk Railroad left Madras for Clark Washington at 10 30. The six car train carried 980 sheep to market and included Mrs Resno Rondeau of Ashland the first woman passenger. Most riders continued to Portland after Clark. Track ballast limited speed to eight mph for 50 miles. later runs reached 50 mph where ballast exists. Regular service expected by March 1.

Deschutes Railroad Viaduct to Cross Willow Creek Canyon
Madras welcomes engineers in charge of the Deschutes Railroad bridge over Willow Creek. Twohy Bros will build the concrete towers for the 1050 foot long and about 225 foot high viaduct, with eight towers and two center towers near 176 feet. The steel will be made in house and assembled on site.
