About 500 people gathered as Portland railroad leaders visited Madras to inspect the Deschutes line now reaching miles into the city. Miller urged hog production and crop rotation to boost local wealth, while other officials stressed attracting homeseekers and developing the land for better yields and prosperity.
Prominent stockmen and Oregon Trunk Line President Stevens meet in Stevens private car to discuss stock loading facilities and wool handling. Wool warehouse and stock yards planned at Madras, with principal yards at Coleman to serve Crook County producers. Coman and Badd assigned to implement the decision.
The first train passes through a triumphal arch in Madras at 10 a.m. amid wild enthusiasm marking the Oregon Trunk Line's 110 mile link from the Columbia River to Deschutes Valley. President Stevens and a Portland party attend, with plans for a midday barbecue and tours of Agency Plains.
