A revised plan for the stock show outlines an anticipated large turnout from major exhibitors and supporters. The event aims to draw visitors from across the region to Portland, spotlighting animals and fair attractions as a key economic boost.
Construction starts on the new water works with Engineer Gordon placing a small crew at the well and pipeline ditch. A site on the J W Robinson tract is chosen south of town with water found at 70 to 100 feet and the project is expected to take about sixty days to complete with an estimated cost near 11000 dollars including a reservoir.
Pioneer resident John Wagonblast of Agency Plains died at his home six miles northwest of Madras on February 3 1911 after a long tuberculosis illness. Born October 24 1848 at St Joseph Missouri he crossed the plains in 1855 with his parents. He lived in Oregon City Multnomah County The Dalles and later near Agency Plains. He is survived by his wife Mary Payne three sons Charles Benjamin C and Harry M five brothers and three sisters and had long ties with the Artisan Lodge. Services were held at the Mountain View Schoolhouse on Agency Plains.
Friends gathered to pay respects to the deceased. Pastor M. W. Weaver of the Madras Methodist Church presided at the service followed by interment at Gard cemetery.
News dispatch reports rails on the Oregon Trunk line about six miles west of Madras near Willow Creek Canyon. Track crews work on a large bridge deck at camp number 5 and expect bridge inspection by tomorrow evening. If no incidents occur, rails should reach Madras by Tuesday evening ahead of Railroad Day set for Wednesday the 15th.
Dr. D L Rader editor of the Pacific Christian Advocate and a noted divine of the Methodist Episcopal church died at his home in Portland on Sunday morning February 5 1911. He was a fluent speaker and lecturer known across the Rocky Mountain region and the Northwest having spoken in Madras and left many friends.
February 15 marks Railroad Day in Madras Central Oregon as the railroad arrives. A two steer barbecue, finance drives raising $400 already with $500 to $600 expected, and speakers including J N Williamson of Prineville and a Oregon Trunk official guest if possible.
The article urges Madras residents and merchants to support making Madras the shipping point for Central Oregon wool. It notes over 2,000,000 pounds of wool are produced annually and suggests shipments through the Farmers' Union Warehouse Co. would benefit both producers and local commerce, challenging Shaniko’s previous role.
At a directors meeting of the Farmers Union Warehouse Company plans were approved to manage all interior freight beyond this point, with emphasis on Prineville. A new oil warehouse is expected for petroleum shipments once the railroad reaches this area. Wheat storage will free space as shipments move, and merchants south of here favor Madras freight billing. Railway officials say freight to Madras could begin by March 1.
A group of 10 to 12 former band players in Madras discusses organizing a brass band of 12 to 15 pieces. A wind instrument ensemble would advertise the town and aid large local gatherings. Citizens urged to assist.
