Wasco County’s Vast Early Bounds and Split History

The Hood River Glacier and Dalles Chronicle recount Wasco County’s enormous original area as of January 11, 1854, when roughly all Oregon east of the Cascades was included. It traced boundaries to the 46th parallel, the Snake River, and the 42nd degree, later reduced by Oregon statehood and territorial realignments that created Washington and Idaho.

Literary makes good start in Madras Society

The Madras Literary Society was organized in the schoolhouse last Friday evening. Debate on nature versus man’s works drew several speakers. Officers elected for three months: President Prof. Fulton, Vice President Miss Jessie Isham, Secretary Charles Bye, Treasurer J C Kaas, Sergeant at Arms Mary Alberta Yoouloge. A constitution and by laws were adopted and meetings set bi weekly at the Madras school house.

Married at Hubbard Albert J Hennemann wed Miss Minute Miller

Albert J Hennemann of Method at Hill and Minute Miller of Hubbard Oregon married at high noon January 26 1905 at the bride's parents home Hubbard. Best man Frank Brnestd and bridesmaid Misa Katherine Heme nane. After a dinner and reception the couple left for Portland and Shanika then Madrasa where they settled on the groom's homestead eight miles southwest of Madrasa.

Mail Route Petition Seeks Madras Corridor to Bend

A group of Madras businessmen and farmers circulates a petition asking the Post Master General to establish a mail route from Heisler Station via Madras Laidlaw Cline Falle to Bend. Over sixty names are on the list. If approved, the route would shave twelve to twenty hours from outgoing and incoming mail service, ending the current twenty hour Madras delay at Grizzly and filling a long felt need.
